First: Am I a Candidate for Surgery?
In order to be considered for bariatric surgery at Southeast Bariatrics, you must:

have BMI ≥ 40 or ≥ 35 with obesity-related medical problems and BMI ≥ 30 for Lap-Band

have the ability to undergo general anesthesia (no major heart or lung problems)

have tried diet, exercise, behavior changes and/or weight loss medications in the past
-
be between the ages of 18-75. We will consider patients over 65 only on a case-by-case basis.

have the ability to understand the risks, benefits, alternatives of bariatric surgery
-
have the ability and willingness to participate in our program and follow our requirements before and after surgery
-
be smoke-free for at least 3 months (If you’re still smoking call 1-800-QUITNOW to begin the quitting process)

be psychologically stable—no psychological illness or addiction
-
be ≥2yrs after major cancer treatment
-
have a Primary Care Physician (PCP)
-
have a good support system
-
have the ability to attend at least one support group prior to surgery
